A challenge dealing with Elton Johns music in AIDA was to find a good solution to reproduce the characteristic piano sound the composer is famous for.
It was clear that we would have an acoustic piano on stage, pianist Martin Payr and we as well love and prefer the real instrument.
At our disposal was a fantastic Yamaha grand piano, provided by AVB.
But how should we achieve the edgy and balanced sound which was supposed to cut through also during complex and dense arrangements.

After a shootout with several pickup systems from different manufacturers I decided to buy the pig in a poke and ordered a Helpinstill Humbucker Pickup in the States. Contrary to all other systems this pickup does not get sticked to the soundboard of the piano, but picks up the movement of the strings, similar to the pickup of a guitar.
After a setup procedure of about 20 minutes an even sound over the whole range of the piano can be achieved.

We all were delighted about the result, an extremely dynamic and crisp sound, the low end similar to the legendary CP-70 piano, mids and highs punchy and bright. We mixed this signal with regular condenser microphones,two DPA 4011. This enabled us to adapt the sound more towards a softer or to a punchier tone, depending on the song.

Martin Payr, keyboardist for AIDA was impressed: “For me the feel of a real piano still can’t be achieved with electric pianos or masterkeyboards. On the downside the live sound reinforcement for a grand piano is always complicated. The combination of that pickup with good microphones was the best I ever had, great for my monitor in-ear plugs as well as enthusiastic reactions from the audience!”

Musical Summer Amstetten 08 presents the most famous love story in its Musical version created by Elton John and Tim Rice: “AIDA”.
Both audience and critique are enthusiastic about this production – it indeed is an exceptional symbiosis of great direction, musical perfection and outstanding interpretation.
Once more the production was directed by Kim Duddy, musical directors were “Beat 4 Feet” (Martin Gellner, Werner Stranka).
Also Andreas Frei was involved as sound designer, this year is his ninth production in Amstetten. This year was the firs colaboration with Viennese sound reinforcement company Sound Art Service and Michael Jurtin as suppliers. Sound Art Service provided a meticulously tuned Meyersound PA system and Michi Jurtin mixes the shows (together with Andreas Hamza) on his Digidesign Profile consoles.
The result of this new constellation was highly praised by audience, actors and musicians!

Nach vielem Hin und Her hat es nun doch geklappt: “Carmen Cubana” absolvierte seine Deutsche Feuertaufe im “Deutschen Theater” München. Nach 3 erfolgreichen Wochen in der Bayrischen Hauptstadt, mit über 13000 Besuchern, ist das Musical derzeit in der Wiener Stadthalle zu sehen.
2006 fand die Uraufführung im Rahmen des Musicalsommer Amstetten statt, und das von Kim Duddy, Martin Gellner und Werner Stranka geschriebene Stück fand derart gro�en Anklang, dass eine Fortführung unvermeidlich war.
Auch in der Bundeshauptstadt sind die Reaktionen euphorisch und wir sind guter Dinge dass das Stück im neuen Jahr seinen Weg auf die Europäischen Tournee Bühnen finden wird.

Der Musicalsommer Amstetten präsentiert heuer das Kult Musical “HAIR”, das als Meilenstein innerhalb der Popkultur der späten 1960er-Jahre gilt. Im Mittelpunkt der Handlung steht eine Gruppe aus der Hippie-Bewegung. Buch und Liedtexte stammen von Gerome Ragni und James Rado, die Musik ist von Galt MacDermot. Die Uraufführung fand am 17. Oktober 1967 in New York statt.

Hair gilt als eines der erfolgreichsten Musicals überhaupt und wurde in der Folge auch in zahlreichen anderen Ländern aufgeführt. 1979 wurde Hair durch Miloš Forman verfilmt.

Ein Riesen Erfolg zeichnet sich auch heuer für Amstetten ab. Noch nie da gewesenes Interesse löste schon vor der Premiere bei allen Beteiligten Euphorie aus.

Unter der Leitung von Kim Duddy entstand eine Neuinterpretation des Stoffs, die die Geschichte “Tribe” als Zirkustruppe darstellt und eine erfrischende und zeitgemäÃ?e Inszenierung bietet, die auch in manchen Textpassagen auf die heutige Zeit Bezug nimmt.

Nach “Fame” und “Wild Party” fand eine weitere Musical Produktion aus Amstetten ihren Weg an das Stadttheater Klagenfurt – “Footloose” wurde auch hier von dem selben Team auf die Bühne gestellt: Kim Duddy führte Regie und die Choreographie, Martin Gellner und Werner Stranka (Beat4Feet) hatten die musikalische Leitung über, das Licht Design stammt wieder von Andy Voller, das Bühnenbild wurde von Hans Kudlich entworfen. Das Sounddesign stammt von Andreas Frei – FREIAUDIO.

Am 19. Juli fand die Premiere des Musicals “Carmen Cubana” statt, bei dem wir das Sounddesign über hatten, übrigens die nunmehr siebente von uns betreute Produktion des Musicalsommers Amstetten (NÃ?).
Die Latin Pop Opera wurde frei nach Bizets Oper Carmen geschaffen. Das Buch stammt von Kim Duddy, die Musik von dem Beat4Feet Duo Martin Gellner und Werner Stranka.
Die Autoren stellten das Stück auch auf die Bühne: Kim Duddy als Regisseurin und Choreographin, Martin Gellner und Werner Stranka als musikalische Leiter.
Es war eine glanzvolle Premiere, mit minutenlangen standing ovations und hervorragenden Kritiken der heimischen Presse. Und mit Recht – eine gute Geschichte, groÃ?artige Musik, und ein Cast, der uns jeden Tag Gänsehaut bescherte, allen voran Lana Gordon als Carmen, Gino Emnes als Joe und Ruben Heerenveen als Escamillo.
Wir waren 12 Tage vor Ort um die Produktion einzurichten.
